Maitri Sangha A Brief History Foundation –
In the years following the independence of India, a group of enthusiastic young men in the small town of Payradanga, under the Ranaghat subdivision of Nadia district, came together with a shared vision. Inspired by a spirit of friendship, creativity, and cultural enrichment, they established the organization Maitri Sangha in 1952.
The first Durga Puja organized by the club took place in front of the “Guha House” (locally known as Prantik Bari) in present-day Natun Gopalpur. In 1953, the venue shifted to the residence of Sri Satish Chandra Pal. The following year, 1954, the Puja was organized in front of the Kabiraj House, presently the residence of Sri Joydeb Dutta Ray.
From 1955, the Durga Puja celebrations moved to the area in front of the house of Sri Dipak Biswas (Jamai). The Puja continued at this location for twenty-five consecutive years, a proud milestone closely associated with the Biswas family. The permission for organizing the Puja there had been graciously granted by Sri Dipak Biswas’s mother-in-law.
The Puja continued at that location until 1977. Although the family had initially allowed the Puja to continue indefinitely, they later made a humble request to the club authorities. Respecting the sentiment of the family, the members of the club unanimously agreed to shift the celebrations to the site where the club building now stands.
This land was generously donated by Sri Balai Chakraborty (Bhanu Chakraborty). As early as 1964, he had donated land to the club specifically for the purpose of organizing Durga Puja. Eventually, in 1978, Maitri Sangha began celebrating Durga Puja permanently on its own land.
In March 2024, the club building was newly reconstructed and officially named “Maitri Sangha – Durga Bari.” With this renovation, the institution entered a new phase of growth and development, shining with renewed energy in both beauty and community service.
The first formal meeting of the organization was held in 1952 at the residence of Sri Pankaj Ganguly. In that meeting, Sri Purnachandra Dutta was elected as the first President, while Sri Dilip Chakraborty became the first Secretary.
Subsequent meetings took place at the present club site, which initially consisted of a simple bamboo-fenced hut. The enthusiastic youths of the neighborhood began gathering there for carrom games, sports practice, and discussions regarding Durga Puja and community activities.
Later, the members approached Sri Milan Chakraborty, son of Sri Balai Chakraborty, requesting permission to build a permanent club structure. With the support of the local community and the generosity of Sri Balai Chakraborty, the club eventually established its own permanent premises.
Over the years, through continuous dedication to sports, literature, culture, and social service, Maitri Sangha gradually grew into a strong and respected institution—much like a spreading banyan tree providing shelter and inspiration to the community.

Sports – Maitri Sangha has earned remarkable recognition in the field of sports, not only in the Payradanga region but also across Nadia district.
The club members were known for their dedication and enthusiasm for football. In 1979, 1980, and 1981, Maitri Sangha became champion of the football tournament organized by the Payradanga Sports Council.
The club also won the trophy dedicated to the memory of the late Sri Mrinal Kanti Das. From 2020 to 2024, Maitri Sangha proudly secured this honor five consecutive times, bringing immense prestige to the institution.
One of the most memorable sporting events in the club’s history took place on 31 August 1997, when an exhibition football match titled “Maitri Sangha vs Calcutta XI” was organized. The event was conducted under the leadership and inspiration of renowned Nadia district goalkeeper Sri Chandan Bhattacharya (Nantu Da), with active support from Sri Mainak Das and other club members.
The match attracted nearly 10,000 spectators and received wide publicity across Nadia district and Kolkata.
Renowned football personality Shri Sailen Manna attended the awards ceremony; he served as an advisor to the tournament. Mention must also be made of the political figures present, such as Shri Shankar Singh—the then MLA of Ranaghat—and various political personalities from Payradanga representing different parties, including the then Payradanga Pradhan, Shri Debiprasad Guha, along with several other prominent political figures.
While the match was directed by FIFA referee Sri Sudhin Chatterjee. The thrilling encounter ultimately ended in a 2–2 draw, but the excitement and emotion it generated remain unforgettable.
Players representing Calcutta XI included renowned footballers such as:
Jamshed Nasiri, Sudhir Chatterjee, Biswajit Bhattacharya, Ranjit Mukherjee, Bidesh Bose, Gautam Sarkar, Surajit Sengupta, Pintu Chowdhury.
Representing Maitri Sangha, the local heroes who fought with equal determination included:
Prashanta Das, Bablu Biswas,Piku Ghosh, Bablu Ghosh, Kesto Mitra, Bibek Bose, Bidyut Mitra, Kele Pal,
Maitri Sangha first participated in the Ranaghat Sub-Divisional League in 1981, when Sri Ranjit Ray (Jang da) served as the club secretary. Several talented players such as Sri Nayan Chakraborty and Sri Ranjit Dutta contributed significantly to this sporting chapter.

Social Service – From its very beginning, Maitri Sangha has believed that service to humanity is service to God. Inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the club members have consistently dedicated themselves to helping society in times of need.
One remarkable example was the Flood Relief Camp of 2000. Severe floods devastated many parts of Nadia district, particularly the villages around Payradanga. Houses were submerged, and people from all walks of life were left homeless and vulnerable.
During this crisis, Maitri Sangha stepped forward to organize a flood relief camp for the affected population.
Two individuals who played especially crucial roles were Sri Chandan Bhattacharya and Sri Manas Das. While Sri Manas Das provided significant financial support, Sri Chandan Bhattacharya led the relief operations with tireless dedication.
Several other members also contributed by delivering food, clothing, and medicines to flood victims, even in dangerous conditions near the riverbanks.
Among the contributors were: Sri Bhabatosh Das, Sri Nikhil Das, Sri Biswajit De Sarkar, Sri Krishnendu Biswas, Sri Nayan Chakraborty. Women also played an inspiring role in the relief activities, including: Smt. Meena Bhattacharya, Smt. Bhagabati Bhowmik, Smt. Tripti Pal.
Their collective efforts brought hope and relief to many families during those difficult days. Another significant chapter in the club’s social service was during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. At a time when fear and uncertainty gripped society, several members of Maitri Sangha actively joined the Red Volunteers, a humanitarian initiative dedicated to helping people affected by the pandemic.
Club members helped supply oxygen cylinders, medicines, and food, and also assisted patients in reaching hospitals.
Among the volunteers were:
Sri Sujoy Sutradhar, Sri Siddhartha Chakraborty, Sri Ajay, Sri Suman Chakraborty, Sri Arghya Sanyal.
During this period, Sri Manas Das once again made notable contributions by providing financial assistance and organizing food distribution for the needy. Sri Amal Bhattacharya also played an important role in supporting these relief efforts. ⸻
Cultural Activities – Maitri Sangha has always placed great importance on cultural development. Over the years, the club has become one of the most prominent cultural organizations in Payradanga.
Every year the club celebrated Rabindra Jayanti and the Foundation Day of the Club with great enthusiasm.
The musical activities of the club were guided by Sri Milan Chakraborty, while Sri Jayanta Chakraborty trained members in theatre.
The club also organized a seven-night Jatra (folk theatre) competition for five consecutive years. The funds generated from these cultural programs were used to build the club’s permanent structure.
Among the most popular productions staged during these competitions was “Joy Santoshi Ma.” The overwhelming response from audiences was so great that the roof and sides of the pandal had to be opened to accommodate the crowd.
Other notable productions included “Nati Binodini”, featuring Smt. Anjali Kapasi and Sri Amal Kar, and “Totinir Bichar”, performed by Sri Shital Nandi and Smt. Kaveri Sinha.
Another proud moment for Maitri Sangha came when three nights of theatre performances were organized at the field near the residence of Sri Mrinal Kanti Das, under the supervision of Sri Biplab Chakraborty (Kumu).
Two plays were performed by the renowned theatre group Jatrik, and one by Nandikar. These performances featured eminent theatre personalities such as Sri Rudraprasad Sengupta, Sri Ajitesh Bandopadhyay, and Smt. Lily Chakraborty.
The play “Matai Jiboner Shreshtha”, performed by the Jatrik group under the leadership of Sri Gyanesh Mukhopadhyay, received immense appreciation.
Maitri Sangha has also staged theatre performances across different parts of the state, maintaining its vibrant cultural tradition. Members such as Sri Nimai Ganguli, Sri Debesh Chakraborty, and Sri Ratan were actively involved in these initiatives.
The club regularly participated in district-level drama competitions as well as statewide one-act play competitions, achieving first and fourth positions in several events and bringing great pride to the institution. ⸻
Through its long journey of friendship, dedication, and community spirit, Maitri Sangha has grown from a small neighborhood initiative into a respected cultural and social institution. Its contributions in sports, culture, and social service continue to inspire generations, carrying forward a legacy of unity and service for the people of Payradanga.

মৈত্রী সংঘ : এক নজরে
সূচনা : ১৯৪৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে ভারতবর্ষ স্বাধীন হবার পর নদিয়া জেলার অন্তর্গত রানাঘাট মহকুমাস্থিত ‘ পায়রাডাঙা ‘ নামক একটি মফ:স্বল শহরে একদল টাটকা তাজা যুবক তাঁদের সুস্থ ও সৃষ্টিশীল রুচি-সংস্কৃতির ধারা বহন করে ১৯৫২ খ্রিস্টাব্দে গড়ে তুললো ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ প্রতিষ্ঠানটি ।
প্রথমে অধুনা নতুন গোপালপুরের ‘ প্রান্তিক ‘ বাড়ি , অর্থাৎ ‘গুহ বাড়ি’র সামনে পুজো হয়। এর পরের বছর অর্থাৎ ১৯৫৩ খ্রিস্টাব্দে স্থান পরিবর্তন হয়, শ্রী সতীশ চন্দ্র পাল – এর বাড়িতে! সেখান থেকে পরের বছর কবিরাজ বাড়ির সামনে অর্থাৎ অধুনা শ্রী জয়দেব দত্ত রায় – এর বাড়ির সামনে পুজো হয় । সেটা ১৯৫৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দ। এর পরের বছর অর্থাৎ ১৯৫৫ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে দুর্গা পুজো শুরু হয় শ্রী দীপক বিশ্বাস ( জামাই) – এর বাড়ির সামনে। পরবর্তী ২৫ বছর সেখানেই পুজো হয় । বলাই বাহুল্য, পঁচিশতম পুজোর গৌরব বহন করছে এই বিশ্বাস পরিবার। এই বাড়িতে পুজো করার অনুমতি দিয়েছিলেন শ্রী দীপক বিশ্বাস – এর শাশুড়িমা । ১৯৭৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দ পর্যন্ত এই বাড়িতেই পুজো হয়। যদিও তিনি আজীবন পুজো করার অনুমতি দিয়েছিলেন , কিন্তু পরবর্তীকালে ক্লাব কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে পরিবার ঐকান্তিক অনুরোধ করায় ক্লাবের সকল সদস্য সম্মিলিতভাবে সহমত হয়ে দীপক বিশ্বাসের অনুরোধে সাড়া দিয়ে তাঁদের বাড়ির জায়গা ছেড়ে চলে আসে বর্তমানে ক্লাবের বিল্ডিং যেখানে প্রতিষ্ঠিত , সেই জায়গায়। ক্লাব কর্তৃপক্ষকে এই জায়গা দান করেছিলেন শ্রী বলাই চক্রবর্তী ( ভানু চক্রবর্তী) । ১৯৬৪ – তে বলাই চক্রবর্তী ক্লাবকে জমি প্রদান করেন দুর্গা পুজো করার জন্য । গত ২০২৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দের মার্চ মাসে ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাব বিল্ডিংটি নতুনভাবে তৈরি হয়ে ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ-দুর্গা বাড়ি ‘নামে নামাঙ্কিত হয়। এবং প্রতিষ্ঠানটি নব কলেবরে বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে ‘ সৌন্দর্য ‘ ও ‘ কর্ম ‘ দুদিক থেকেই উজ্জ্বল হয়ে উঠেছে ।
১৯৫২ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ যখন প্রতিষ্ঠিত হল তখনই বসল প্রথম আলোচনাসভা — ১৯৫২ খ্রিস্টাব্দের প্রথম দিকে , শ্রী পঙ্কজ গাঙ্গুলির বাড়িতে । তখন প্রথম সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন শ্রী পূর্ণচন্দ্র দত্ত এবং প্রথম সম্পাদক নির্বাচিত হয়েছিলেন শ্রী দিলীপ চক্রবর্তী। পরের আলোচনাসভা গুলি সংঘটিত হয়, বর্তমানে যেখানে ক্লাব বিল্ডিং প্রতিষ্ঠিত সেই স্থানে। আলোচনাসভার শুরুটা ছিল বেড়ার ঘর বেঁধে। পাড়ার কর্মোদ্যোগী ছেলেরা বেড়ার ঘর বেঁধেই শুরু করে দেয় ক্যারাম খেলা, অন্যান্য খেলার প্রস্তুতি, এমনকি পুজোর আলোচনাও । পরবর্তীতে তাঁরা বলাই চক্রবর্তীর পুত্র শ্রী মিলন চক্রবর্তীর কাছে অনুরোধ জানায় পাকাপাকিভাবে ক্লাব বিল্ডিং প্রতিষ্ঠা করার অনুমতি প্রদানের জন্য । ভালো কোনও কাজের জন্য যেমন কোনও বাধা থাকেনা, তেমনই এই ক্লাব প্রতিষ্ঠা করার জন্যও জমির কোনও টানাটানি ছিল না। শ্রদ্ধেয় শ্রী বলাই চক্রবর্তী যে, ক্লাব – এর পাকাপাকিভাবে বিল্ডিং তৈরির জন্য ১ কাঠা জমি দিয়েছিলেন, এরই পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ১৯৭৮ খ্রিস্টাব্দেই শুরু হয়ে গেল ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাবের নিজস্ব জমিতে পাকাপাকিভাবে দুর্গাপুজো । সেই ধারা আজও বহমান । সাহিত্য – সংস্কৃতি – ক্রীড়া – সমাজসেবা , সর্ব ক্ষেত্রেই এই ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাবটি ধীরে ধীরে শাখা- প্রশাখা পল্লবিত করে একটি আশ্রয় প্রদানকারী বটগাছ – এ এসে পরিণত হয়েছে আজ।
ক্রীড়া পর্ব : ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাব পায়রাডাঙা অঞ্চলে তো বটেই এমনকি নদিয়া জেলাতেও খেলাধূলার চর্চায় খুবই সুনাম অর্জন করেছিল। খেলাধূলার প্রসঙ্গে ক্লাব সদস্যরা ছিলেন একনিষ্ঠ। ১৯৭৯,১৯৮০ এবং ১৯৮১ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে ‘মৈত্রী সংঘ’ ফুটবল টুর্নামেন্টে চ্যাম্পিয়ন হয়। এই খেলাটির উদ্যোগে ছিল ‘ পায়রাডাঙা ক্রীড়া পর্ষদ ‘। এরপর স্বর্গীয় মৃণালকান্তি দাস – এর স্মৃতির উদ্দেশ্যে যে ট্রফি দেওয়া হয় তা অর্জন করে ‘মৈত্রী সংঘ’ ক্লাবের খেলোয়াড়েরা । ২০২০ – ২০২৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দ পর্যন্ত পরপর পাঁচ বছর এই সম্মান অর্জন করে গরিমা তৈরি করে ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ । পুরনো যে ক্লাবগুলি বড় জায়গা করে নিয়েছে পায়রাডাঙার স্পোর্টস জগতে, তাদের মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাবটি।
১৯৯৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ৩১ অগাস্ট, নদিয়া জেলার প্রখ্যাত গোলকিপার শ্রী চন্দন ভট্টাচার্য ( নান্টু দা) – এর নেতৃত্বে ও উদ্দীপনায় এবং শ্রী মৈনাক দাসসহ ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ’ – এর সকল সদস্যের সহযোগিতায় সংঘটিত হয়েছিল ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ বনাম ক্যালকাটা একাদশ ‘ শীর্ষক এক প্রদর্শনী ম্যাচ । নদিয়া জেলার প্রখ্যাত গোলরক্ষক শ্রী চন্দন ভট্টাচার্য (নান্টু দা)-র নেতৃত্ব ও অনুপ্রেরণায় এবং শ্রী মৈনাক দাস ও ক্লাবের অন্যান্য সদস্যদের সক্রিয় সহযোগিতায় এই আয়োজনটি সম্পন্ন হয়।এই ম্যাচটি প্রায় ১০,০০০ দর্শকের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেছিল এবং নদিয়া জেলা ও কলকাতা জুড়ে ব্যাপক প্রচার লাভ করেছিল।
এই প্রদর্শনী ম্যাচের প্রধান অতিথিসহ মূল তত্ত্বাবধায়ক ছিলেন শ্রী শৈলেন মান্না এবং খেলার পরিচালক ছিলেন ফিফা রেফারি শ্রী সুধীন চ্যাটার্জি । বাঘা বাঘা খেলোয়াড়দের খেলার কৌশলে মাঠ উত্তাল হয়ে উঠেছিল উত্তেজনা ও আবেগে । যদিও খেলাটি ২/২ অমীমাংসিত থেকে গিয়েছিল ।
‘ ক্যালকাটা একাদশ ‘ – এর হয়ে যে সকল খেলোয়াড়রা মাঠ কাঁপিয়েছিলেন, তাঁরা হলেন— জামসেদ নাসিরি, সুধীর চ্যাটার্জি, বিশ্বজিৎ ভট্টাচার্য, রঞ্জিত মুখার্জী, বিদেশ বোস, গৌতম সরকার, সুরজিৎ সেনগুপ্ত, পিন্টু চৌধুরী প্রমুখ। তাঁদের সঙ্গে পাল্লা দিয়ে যাঁরা ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ কে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করে সমানে সমানে লড়াই চালিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন, তাঁরা হলেন— প্রশান্ত দাস, বাবলু বিশ্বাস, পিকু ঘোষ , বাবলু ঘোষ, কেষ্ট মিত্র, বিবেক বোস, বিদ্যুৎ মিত্র, কেলে পাল প্রমুখ ।
প্রখ্যাত ফুটবল ব্যক্তিত্ব শ্রী শৈলেন মান্না এসেছিলেন পুরস্কারের দিন। তিনি ছিলেন এই টুর্নামেন্টের উপদেষ্টা । রাজনৈতিক দিক থেকে যাঁরা ছিলেন তাঁদের কথাও উল্লেখ করতে হয়। যেমন ছিলেন রানাঘাটের তৎকালীন বিধায়ক শ্রী শঙ্কর সিংহ , ছিলেন পায়রাডাঙার বাসিন্দা বিভিন্ন দলের রাজনৈতিক ব্যক্তিত্ব।তৎকালীন পায়রাডাঙ্গার প্রধান শ্রী দেবীপ্রসাদ গুহ সহ একাধিক সামনের সারির রাজনৈতিক ব্যক্তিত্ব ।
রানাঘাট সাব-ডিভিশনাল লীগে ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ প্রথম খেলতে যায় ১৯৮১ খ্রিস্টাব্দে । শ্রী রঞ্জিত রায় ( জং দাদা ) ছিলেন তখন ক্লাব সেক্রেটারি খেলাটা সদস্যদের রক্তে এমনভাবে মিশে গিয়েছিল যে, যেকোনও পরিস্থিতিতে তাঁরা ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ত মাঠে । মজার মাধ্যমে এমন একটি প্রসঙ্গও উল্লেখ করা যায়, যাঁরা ফার্স্ট ডিভিশন খেলেন , তাঁরাও কৌশল করে মাঠে নেমে পড়েন সি-ডিভিশন খেলতে। যদিও তার পরিণতিটা মোটেই সুখকর ছিল না ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ – এর খেলোয়াড়দের । শ্রী নয়ন চক্রবর্তী, শ্রী রঞ্জিত দত্ত, ….. ছিলেন এই ক্রীড়া পর্বের সম্পদ।
সমাজসেবা: ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাবটি কেবল খেলাধূলা নয়, সাহিত্য – সংস্কৃতি এবং সমাজসেবাতেও প্রভূত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে আসছে প্রায় সূচনাপর্ব থেকেই । স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ একদা বলেছিলেন , ‘ জীবে প্রেম করে যেই জন , সেই জন সেবিছে ঈশ্বর ‘। এর মূল মর্মার্থই হল মানবসেবার মাধ্যমেই ঈশ্বরের সেবা সম্পূর্ণ হয়। ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাবের সদস্যদের অন্তরে যে এই মানবসেবার মাধ্যমে ঈশ্বরসেবার মূল সুরই বাঁধা, তাঁর প্রকাশ মেলে ক্লাব সদস্যদের জনসেবার বিবিধ কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে ।
সমাজসেবা ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘-র সদস্যদের একটি আন্তরিক গুণ । মানবিকতা ও সমাজসেবা যে একই মুদ্রার এপিঠ-ওপিঠ তা প্রমাণ করে দিয়েছেন ক্লাব – এর একাধিক সদস্য । এই প্রসঙ্গে ২০০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দের বন্যাত্রাণ ক্যাম্প – এর কথাই ধরা যাক । ২০০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দের নদিয়া জেলা, বিশেষত পায়রাডাঙা গ্রামের দিকেই যদি তাকানো যায়, তাহলে দেখা যাবে, এলাকা ভেসে যাচ্ছে, ভেসে যাচ্ছে সব বাড়ি ঘর। শিশু থেকে বৃদ্ধ সকলেই নিরাপত্তাহীনতায় আশ্রয়হীন হয়ে পড়ছে । অর্থ সেখানে মাপকাঠি নয়, কোন এলাকায় বাস সেটাই তখন প্রধান কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়াল নিরাপত্তাহীনতার । এহেন পরিস্থিতিতে বহু প্রতিষ্ঠানের মতো ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ’ও বন্যা কবলিত এলাকাসহ সকল নাগরিককে নিরাপত্তা দেবার জন্য ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ল । শুরু হল ‘ বন্যাত্রাণ ক্যাম্প’ । এই ক্যাম্পকে পরিচালনার জন্য সেই সময় যে দুজন বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য, তাঁরা হলেন শ্রী চন্দন ভট্টাচার্য ও শ্রী মানস দাস । বন্যাত্রাণে মূলত অর্থ প্রদান করেছেন শ্রী মানস দাস । আর সঙ্গে শ্রম দিয়ে কাজটিকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে গিয়েছেন শ্রী চন্দন ভট্টাচার্য । তৎসহ সহযোগিতার জন্য হাত বাড়িয়েই ছিলেন ক্লাব – এর একাধিক সদস্য । কিছু কিছু সদস্য সকল বিপদকে উপেক্ষা করেই গঙ্গার পাড়ের ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ মানুষদের খাবার পৌঁছে দেওয়া থেকে শুরু করে পোশাক, ওষুধ ইত্যাদি সামগ্রী পৌঁছে দিয়ে তাঁদের ওই কঠিন দিন গুলো থেকে বেরিয়ে আসতে সাহায্য করেছিলেন। উল্লেখ্য, শ্রী ভবতোষ দাস, শ্রী নিখিল দাস, শ্রী বিশ্বজিৎ দে সরকার, শ্রী কৃষ্ণেন্দু বিশ্বাস, শ্রী নয়ন চক্রবর্তী প্রমুখ। নারীবাহিনী’ ও কিন্তু এই কাজে কোথাও পিছিয়ে ছিলেন না। উল্লেখ্য, শ্রীমতী মীনা ভট্টাচার্য, শ্রীমতী ভগবতী ভৌমিক, শ্রীমতী তৃপ্তি পালসহ ছোট – বড় বহু মেয়ে – নারী- বৃদ্ধা সকলে। এই বন্যা কবলিত এলাকার মানুষদের পাশে থেকে সেই সময় শ্রী মানস দাস- এর যে অবদান তা অবিস্মরণীয়, অকল্পনীয় ।
সমাজসেবার এই ধারাকে বজায় রেখে দিনের পর দিন বহু কাজ তো করেই চলেছেন ক্লাব – এর সদস্যরা । এই প্রসঙ্গে বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখনীয় ২০২০ খ্রিস্টাব্দের কোভিড পরিস্থিতির কথা । যেমনভাবে ২০০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে গড়ে উঠেছিল ‘ বন্যাত্রাণ ক্যাম্প’, তেমনভাবেই ২০২০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে গড়ে উঠল ‘ কোভিড ক্যাম্প ‘ । যখন কোভিড সংক্রমণ ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল চারিদিকে, মানুষ মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়ানোতো দূর অস্ত, কথা বললেও যেন সংক্রামিত হয়ে যাবে এমনভাবে ভীত, তখন বহু কোভিড আক্রান্ত রোগীকে বাঁচানোর জন্য বামপন্থী মনোভাবাপন্ন নারী – পুরুষ একত্রিত হয়ে গড়ে তুলেছিল ‘ রেড ভলান্টিয়ার্স ‘ নামক ফোরাম। এই ফোরামের অংশ হিসেবে সাধারণ মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে অক্সিজেন সিলিন্ডার সরবরাহ, ওষুধ, খাদ্যদ্রব্য সরবরাহ করেছেন ক্লাবের বহু সদস্য । এঁদের মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে শ্রী সুজয় সূত্রধর, শ্রী সিদ্ধার্থ চক্রবর্তী, শ্রী অজয়, শ্রী সুমন চক্রবর্তী, শ্রী অর্ঘ্য সান্যাল সহ বহু যুবক লাগাতার মানবসেবা করে গেছেন। কোভিড আক্রান্তদের হাসপাতাল পৌঁছোনো থেকে শুরু করে ওষুধ পথ্য সব সরবরাহ করেছেন । এছাড়াও কোভিডের সময় দু:স্থ মানুষদের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে আর্থিক সাহায্য, খাবার বিতরণ, এছাড়াও একাধিক উপায়ে সাহায্য করার ক্ষেত্রে শ্রী মানস দাস – এর অবদান অনস্বীকার্য । এর পরেই যাঁর নাম উল্লেখ করতে হয়, তিনি হলেন শ্রী অমল ভট্টাচার্য ।
সংস্কৃতি : সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রেও ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাব – এর অবদান উল্লেখনীয় । সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রেও পায়রাডাঙার সকল ক্লাবের মধ্যে ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ সর্বাগ্রে উল্লেখযোগ্য । প্রতি বছর নিয়ম করে রবীন্দ্র জয়ন্তী , সংঘের প্রতিষ্ঠা দিবস উদযাপন করা হতো । গানের দিকটা দেখতেন শ্রী মিলন চক্রবর্তী এবং নাটকের বিষয়ে তালিম দিতেন শ্রী জয়ন্ত চক্রবর্তী । এছাড়াও পাঁচ বছর ধরে সাত রাত্রি ব্যাপী যাত্রা প্রতিযোগিতা করিয়েছে এই প্রতিষ্ঠান । এই যাত্রা প্রতিযোগিতা থেকে প্রাপ্ত লাভের অর্থ দিয়েই ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ ক্লাব -এর বিল্ডিংটি তৈরি হয় । এছাড়াও ক্লাবে শুরু করা হয় ‘ লটারি প্রতিযোগিতা ‘ । উদ্দেশ্য ছিল প্রাপ্ত লাভের অর্থ ব্যবহৃত হবে ক্লাবের বিল্ডিং প্রস্তুত করতে।
এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের সংস্কৃতি চর্চার যে একটা বড় অংশ ছিল যাত্রা প্রতিযোগিতা, তার বিরাট বিস্তার ঘটিয়ে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বিভিন্ন জেলা এমনকি কলকাতাও তার অংশ হিসেবে গরিমা বৃদ্ধি করেছে। ‘ জয় সন্তোষী মা ‘ নামক একটি যাত্রাপালার কথাই উল্লেখ করা যাক। এই পালা প্রদর্শনে যেমন বিপুল সাড়া মিলেছিল, তেমনই আর্থিক লাভও হয়েছিল প্রচুর। এই পালার প্রদর্শনে দর্শকের সংখ্যা এতটাই বেশি ছিল যে, দর্শককে যাত্রপালাটি দেখবার সুযোগ দেবার জন্য প্যান্ডেলের চারিপাশ ও মাথার টিন খুলে দেওয়া হয় । এই পালা ঘিরে যে উত্তেজনা সৃষ্টি হয়েছিল সেই সময় তা আজও পুরনো মানুষ স্মরণ করে আনন্দ প্রকাশ করেন ।
এছাড়াও এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের উদ্যোগে অভিনীত হয় ‘ নটি বিনোদিনী ‘ নামক আর একটি বিখ্যাত যাত্রাপালা । যেখানে অভিনয় করেন শ্রীমতী অঞ্জলি কাপাসি, শ্রী অমল কর প্রমুখ। আর এক জনপ্রিয় পালা ‘ তটিনীর বিচার’ । যেটিতে অভিনয় করেন শ্রী শীতল নন্দী, শ্রীমতী কাবেরী সিনহা প্রমুখ শিল্পী ।
‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ – এর অহংকারের মুকুটে যুক্ত হয় আরও একটি পালক । শ্রী বিপ্লব চক্রবর্তী ( কুমু) – র তত্ত্বাবধানে শ্রী মৃণালকান্তি দাস– এর বাড়ির মাঠে তিন রাত্রি ব্যাপী তিনটি নাটক প্রদর্শনের ব্যবস্থা করা হয় । দুটি নাটক ছিল ‘ যাত্রিক ‘ – এর , আর একটি ছিল ‘ নান্দীকার ‘ – এর। এই গ্রুপ থিয়েটার দুটির নাম থেকেই আমরা অনুভব করতে পারি যে, কেন আমাদের অহংকারের প্রসঙ্গ এলো! শ্রী রুদ্রপ্রসাদ সেনগুপ্ত স্বয়ং পায়রাডাঙার মাটিতে এসে পা রেখেছেন । শ্রী অজিতেশ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়– এর মতো স্টলওয়ার্ট এসেছিলেন এই মফস্বল শহরে অভিনয় করতে ‘ শের আফগান ‘ নাটকে । এছাড়াও ছিলেন শ্রীমতী লিলি চক্রবর্তীসহ একধিক গুণী অভিনেতা। ‘যাত্রিক’ গোষ্ঠীর শ্রী জ্ঞানেশ মুখোপাধ্যায় সহ বহু দক্ষ অভিনেতা দ্বারা অভিনীত নাটকটি ‘ মাতাই জীবনের শ্রেষ্ঠ ‘ ।
কলকাতার প্রখ্যাত নাট্য দল ‘ যাত্রিক ‘ এবং ‘ নান্দীকার ‘ ই যে কেবল ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ – এর উদ্যোগে অভিনয় করে গিয়েছে এমন নয়, এই প্রতিষ্ঠান নিজেও রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে থিয়েটার করে তাঁদের সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য বজায় রেখেছে । এই দলে মূলত ছিলেন , শ্রী নিমাই গাঙ্গুলি, শ্রী দেবেশ চক্রবর্তী, শ্রী রতন প্রমুখ। জেলায় জেলায় যে নাটকের প্রতিযোগিতা হত, প্রায় প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রেই ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ’ অংশগ্রহণ করত । কেবল পূর্ণাঙ্গ নাটক নয়, সারা বাংলা ‘ একাঙ্ক নাটক ‘ প্রতিযোগিতাতেও ছিল ক্লাবের অংশগ্রহণ। প্রথম স্থান, চতুর্থ স্থান অধিকার করে প্রতিষ্ঠানের সদস্যরা ‘ মৈত্রী সংঘ ‘ কে করে তুলেছিল গৌরবান্বিত ।
